Initial project inspiration was as a gift to pair with an Apple Watch. The core purpose of this stand was to provide an easily accessible and consistent place to charge an Apple Watch. Some considerations that went into this design where to have a weighted base to keep the stand in place when removing the watch, a clean integration with the official Apple Watch charger, and a wide compatibility with various watch bands. The charger is a friction fit to the 3D printed part and charging cable is routed through the part to exit from the rear of the stand. The base is a Cambria quartz sample that adds the needed weight to the stand while providing a pleasing aesthetic. While this was the most difficult part of the project with having to drill holes through the quartz, I love the way it turned out.
What I learned on this project, it takes patience and a diamond drill bit to drill through quartz. Also, while I drilled I did so in a tub under the water so that it would not kick up quartz dust.
