This project was born out of a desire to create a product that can help reduce the amount of plastic waste going into landfills. These Apple Watch stands are a combination of a previous design for an Apple Watch stand I worked on that had a Quartz base mixed with my recent work with remelting 3D printed plastic. The base is made by melting down and molding failed or unused 3D prints that would otherwise end up in the trash. Weighing around 170g, the base provides the necessary weight to keep the stand stationary while placing or removing the watch. The upright portion of the stand is a 3D-printed two-piece design that holds the charging puck and routes the cable out the back. With the combination of the weight of the base and the height of the stand, it provides a convenient way to keep an Apple Watch charged, regardless of the type of band installed.
